Leonard brings with him a unique blend of skillsets owing to his considerable work experience in the investment and financial.
Prior to practising law, Leonard was an Investment Analyst covering US and European equities in one of the largest asset management firms in Singapore. Through the desire to focus on Asian and regional equities and investments, Leonard subsequently joined an offshore investment bank as a Research Analyst covering regional as well as Singapore transportation stocks. During his time covering the Singapore land transport stocks, Leonard’s stock calls were consistently ranked amongst the top by Bloomberg.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Leonard pursued a law degree at the Singapore Management University as he believes that a hybrid skillset in both law and finance would allow him to take on future roles and challenges that would not be otherwise present themselves. Leonard performed well in law school, winning two (2) Juris Doctor Term Awards, topping the class in Law of International Trade, and graduating with a Cum Laude, despite juggling family life as a father of two children.
While Leonard started his legal career in a disputes-focused practice (in one of the “big four” firms where he worked for nearly three (3) years), Leonard now practises mainly corporate law at Trident Law, with a focus on the capital markets and securities space. Leonard’s background in finance allows him to dispense clients with commercially minded legal advice from the vantage point of financial institutions and/or their directors.
Over the course of his budding legal career, Leonard has advised, among others, major banks and asset management firms (regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore), single family offices, technology start-ups, as well as a securities crowdsourcing platform.
