Siva has over 30 years of experience in litigation and dispute resolution. He graduated from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1987 and was called to the Bar of England & Wales at Lincoln’s Inn in 1988. Siva was subsequently admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor, Supreme Court of Singapore in 1989 and was called as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of Australia in 1990.
Siva commenced practice in 1989 with Arthur Loke & Partners, which was Baker & McKenzie’s former associate firm in Singapore. In 1994, he was one of the Founding Partners of Azman, Soh & Murugaiyan and served as Managing Partner until 2001; when it was assimilated as part of White & Case’s Singapore JLV. During his stewardship, he spearheaded the growth of firm from 4 lawyers in 1994 to 18 lawyers in 2001. After his time with White & Case, Siva joined various firms including, more recently, RHTLaw Taylor Wessing.
His primary area of practice is dispute resolution, encompassing civil and commercial litigation, arbitration and mediation. Siva has appeared as Counsel before tribunals and Courts in Singapore including the High Court, the Singapore International Commercial Court and the Court of Appeal; Singapore’s highest Court. In addition, he has also acted in ICC, SIAC and ad hoc arbitrations as counsel and arbitrator.
Apart from legal practice, Siva has also served as Council Member, Exco Member and Treasurer of the Law Society of Singapore. As Treasurer, he oversaw the administration of the finances of the Society which exceeds $20 million.
In addition, he was also appointed by the Chief Justice to the Inquiry Panel, which deals with complaints against lawyers. Siva has chaired Review and Inquiry Committees and served on Disciplinary Tribunals. Siva also served on the Board of Commissioners of Oaths and Notaries Public of the Singapore Academy of Law for 10 years from 2005 to 2015.
