Jun completed her pupillage at one of Singapore’s “Big Four” law firms and joined Trident Law in 2016 to pursue a practice in Criminal Defence. She has argued at all levels of the Singapore Courts and defended individuals facing a wide range of criminal charges, including murder, drug-related offences and financial crimes such as cheating, corruption and fraudulent trading.
She has been described by client as “strategic”, “empathetic”, “thorough and precise”.
Notable cases that Jun has acted on include:
- Jun won her first criminal trial by successfully defending a migrant who had been falsely accused of molest. Following a 4-year ordeal and a 10-day trial, the man’s innocence was upheld by the Singapore Court. In clearing his name, the man avoided deportation and was allowed to continue life in Singapore with his wife and children.
- Acting for the accused person in the 2015 “Boon Lay Killing”. Jun assisted lead counsel R. Thrumurgan in securing a reduction of the murder charge to one of culpable homicide. The accused was thus spared from the death penalty. In her 3rd year of practice, Jun led the arguments at both the High Court and the Court of Appeal on sentencing.
- Representing a Dutch national who was wanted by the US for soliciting at least $9 million from investment firms in New York and elsewhere in the United States. The man had also cheated victims of more than $700,000 in Singapore. Jun represented the accused in his Singapore case. The Attorney-General’s Chambers initially sought a 60-month sentence against the man. Jun led the arguments on sentencing and obtained a significantly reduced sentence of 45-months.
- Securing a conditional warning for a young woman who had been charged with importing cannabis into Singapore and possessing LSD. The woman suffered mental health conditions and relied on drugs to cope. Following Jun’s intervention, the charges were withdrawn on condition that she would not offend again. Against Singapore’s stiff approach towards drug offenders, this was a rare outcome, so much so that the judge hearing the matter remarked that he had never before seen a result like this.
- Obtaining a withdrawal of 11 cheating charges for a businessman who was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code. The man had made enemies in the course of doing business, and this resulted in him being wrongly accused of having cheated multiple “victims” of more than half a million dollars. Through a detailed analysis of the evidence, Jun highlighted problems with the Prosecution’s case against the man. Charges were consequently dropped.
- Assisting in the defence of a woman who was investigated for insurance fraud and forgery. The woman had suffered from Major Depressive Order when she committed the offences, and her mental condition had influenced her to commit the offences. Jun made Representations the Attorney-Generals’ Chambers to show – given the accused’s background – how the offences were completely out of character for the accused. As a result of this, the accused was issued with a conditional warning in lieu of prosecution.
Jun believes that justice should be accessible to all. From 2019 to 2021, Jun was Head of Office at Justice Without Borders (JWB), a regional non-profit organisation creating transnational access to justice for migrant workers. During the Covid-19 pandemic – a particularly challenging time for migrant workers – Jun spearheaded the activities of JWB’s Singapore office, overseeing its strategic research and litigation portfolio, capacity building initiatives, and fundraising strategy. Back in legal practice, Jun continues to represent migrant workers in collaboration with JWB.
Since 2024, Jun has been a Principal Examiner for the Criminal Procedure Course at the Singapore Institute of Legal Education.
Jun graduated with a Bachelor of Law from King’s College London.
